Με την κωδική ονομασία Επιχείρηση Μπαρμπαρόσα (Unternehmen Barbarossa στα γερμανικά) έμεινε στην ιστορία η εισβολή των Γερμανών στη Σοβιετική Ένωση, κατά τη διάρκεια του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Μπαρμπαρόσα (Κοκκινογένης στα ιταλικά) ήταν το προσωνύμιο του αυτοκράτορα της Αγίας Ρωμαϊκής Αυτοκρατορίας Φρειδερίκου Α’, ο οποίος ηγήθηκε των Σταυροφόρων τον 12ο αιώνα. Για τους Σοβιετικούς, η Επιχείρηση Μπαρμπαρόσα σηματοδότησε την αρχή του Μεγάλου Πατριωτικού Αγώνα, καθώς οι Σοβιετικοί κινητοποίησαν όλες τις δυνάμεις της χώρας τους, πραγματοποιώντας έναν ολοκληρωτικό πόλεμο, με όλη την σημασία του όρου.
Η Επιχείρηση Μπαρμπαρόσα ξεκίνησε στις 22 Ιουνίου του 1941 και διήρκεσε έως τις 7 Ιανουαρίου 1942, όταν τα γερμανικά στρατεύματα εγκλωβίστηκαν από τον ρωσικό χειμώνα. Ήταν πρελούδιο των πολεμικών επιχειρήσεων στο Ανατολικό Μέτωπο.

75 years since Operation Barbarossa – Revisions…

On 22nd June it will have been 75 years since the commencement of Operation Barbarossa, the Hitlerian invasion of the Soviet Union, the war of extermination, pillage and colonization which was to cost the lives of between 24 and 29 million human beings (according to recent estimates): Russians, Ukrainians, Byelorussians and other Soviet peoples who spearheaded the resistance – finally victorious – to Nazi Germany and its allies. It is sometimes forgotten that this aggression was led not only by Germans but by the armies, SS divisions and various other legions of most European countries, under fascist, right-wing authoritarian, or occupation regimes, which were to a greater or lesser extent collaborators. The fact – explicit in the principal Nazi documents – is also neglected that Hitler’s “European project”, the destruction of the USSR and the colonization (economic integration) of a vast “Lebensraum” in the East was the major project of this war. Berlin’s Generalplan Ost provided for deportation beyond the Urals of thirty to fifty million Slavs, of whom a good number were to die – estimates were in the vicinity of thirty millions deaths. In the course of the first year of the invasion around twelve million Soviet prisoners of war were deliberately exterminated through starvation or shooting – a subject generally withheld from us – and 900,000 Jews, as implementation of the “final solution” got underway.

Il y aura 75 ans, ce 22 juin, que commença l’Opération Barbarossa, soit l’invasion hitlérienne de l’Union soviétique, la guerre d’extermination, de pillage et de colonisation qui allait coûter entre 24 et 29 millions (selon les récentes estimations) de vies humaines aux Russes, Ukrainiens, Biélorusses et autres Soviétiques qui assurèrent la plus lourde charge de la résistance – finalement victorieuse- à l’Allemagne nazie et à ses alliés. On oublie parfois que cette agression fut menée, non par les seuls Allemands, mais par les armées, divisions SS et légions diverses de la plupart des pays européens, sous régimes fascistes, autoritaires de droite, ou occupés et plus ou moins collaborateurs. On néglige également le fait – explicite dans les principaux documents nazis – que le “projet européen” d’Hitler, la destruction de l’URSS et la colonisation (l’intégration économique) d’un vaste “Lebensraum” à l’Est constituait le projet majeur de cette guerre. Le Plan Est de Berlin prévoyait la déportation au delà de l’Oural de trente à cinquante millions de Slaves, dont bon nombre devaient mourir – les estimations tournaient autour de trente millions de morts. Au cours de la première année d’invasion, quelque deux millions de prisonniers de guerre soviétiques furent délibérément exterminés par la faim et la fusillade – un sujet généralement occulté chez nous – et 900.000 Juifs alors que se mettait en place la “solution finale”.
